Red Tiger Gaming started off as a group of industry veterans forming their own studio back in 2014, with the intent of doing things their own way. Now, as 2018 is slowly drawing to a close, the company is booming. Just now in September, the company appointed Chris Looney as its new commercial director.

Mr Looney spent the last seven years in Microgaming as a sales manager, marking yet another veteran of the gambling industry to join Red Tiger’s wings and strengthen their position. How to Play it

Totem Lightning Power Reels takes place on a 8×6 playing field, and it utilises 30 fixed paylines. In general, we quite like games in which parts of the reel give way to make room for new symbols to arrive, and while it seemed like we got it, the fact you have 30 fixed paylines instead of cluster wins makes it so much less enjoyable that we’re dedicating this whole part of the review to it. With cluster wins, you see the reels collapse and give way to new icons, making it enjoyable.

In Red Tiger’s release, they only disappear if they’re part of a winning combination, and chaining any more wins is much more difficult once you’re working with paylines. There’s also the fact you’ve stretched 30 paylines across a massive 8×6 playing field – if they wanted to go with that route, they should have gone with 40 paylines, at least.

The game actually has a gorgeous looking mountain in the backdrop, but you usually only see a glimpse of it behind the reels, as none of the symbols are transparent, and they’re stacked really close to each other, preventing you from seeing what’s behind. It’s not a big deal, but it always baffled us why they go through all the effort to make some great visuals, and then hide them.

Special Features

The one special feature that exists in this Red Tiger release is the Lightning Strike feature. Once lightning strikes the playing field, it will remove all low paying icons it comes into contact with, and can also transform affected symbols into others – allowing you to find yourself with a reel full of one symbol once it happens. The feature is activated at random.

Maximum Payouts

The largest possible jackpot which you can win is a massive 7777x the wager. Between disappearing symbols allowing for chained wins, the lightning feature allowing some symbols to transform into others, and the sheer size of the playing field itself, your chances aren’t as slim as you’d like to believe, but they’re also not anything to write home about.

The title also has a high volatility, meaning that chaining those wins in the first place is going to be very rare, which detracts from the enjoyment of Totem Lightning Power Reels. The title has an RTP of 96.21%, which is above average for video slots.
