I’ve been gambling for over 15 years now, and when Victoria Gate Casino opened in 2017 as part of the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre, I knew I had to check it out and done several times since.
Being dubbed “The Super Casino of the North,” this place certainly talks a big game, and after multiple visits over the years, I can say it mostly lives up to the hype. Located right in the heart of Leeds on Eastgate, this is easily one of the most impressive casinos I’ve visited in the UK – though like any venue, it has its quirks.

The gaming floor at Victoria Gate is genuinely impressive. With 22 live betting tables and over 175 slots and electronic roulette games, there’s plenty to keep you busy. The table games cover all the classics – blackjack, roulette, poker, and baccarat. What really caught my attention though is the poker room, which is absolutely massive with a dedicated 100 seat poker area that’s become legendary in the North for its tournaments.
The slot selection is solid, with the majority of slots provided by Novomatic and IGT some cabinets from Scientific Games. I’ve noticed they’ve got everything from penny slots to high-limit machines, and some of them are linkedto decent jackpots. The electronic roulette terminals are a nice touch too – perfect for when the live tables are full.

Here’s where things get a bit tricky. The dress code isn’t as relaxed as some other places I’ve been to. The casino prides itself on providing high-end entertainment and glamour, so smart casual is recommended. I’ve seen people turned away for being too casual, and one reviewer mentioned being fine in “jeans and t-shirt” but suggested dressing “a little smarter” for evening visits. My advice? Don’t risk it – dress smart casual and you’ll be fine.

The Two Main Bars:
- Curve Bar – The casino’s primary bar, known for its lively atmosphere and extensive drink menu. This is where you go for cocktails and a more upscale experience.
- Live Bar – Widely regarded as Leeds’ number one sports bar, it’s the ultimate place to catch football, boxing, and UFC. Boasting the city’s largest sports screen and 41 HD displays, it delivers an unbeatable atmosphere for live sporting action.
They also have the best drink prices in Leeds according to their marketing, and from my experience, the drinks are reasonably priced for a casino.
Special Events
Victoria Gate definitely knows how to put on events. They regularly host live music nights, with live music in Curve Bar every Friday and Saturday from 9pm. I’ve been to a few of their themed nights featuring weekend DJs of your favourite EDM and house music.
The poker tournaments are probably their biggest draw though. The poker room has built a strong reputation across the North of England, known for hosting high quality tournaments that attract players of all levels. I’ve participated in several – the organization is top notch.

Getting to Victoria Gate is straightforward. The casino is at the very heart of the city centre; close to Leeds’ famous Kirkgate Market, it is easily reached by bus and Leeds Railway Station is a 20-minute walk away.
Parking: Free parking available next to the casino at the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre, which is handy since parking in central Leeds can be a nightmare.
Nearby Hotels: There are plenty of accommodation options within walking distance, including Premier Inns, Holiday Inn Express, and several boutique hotels in the city centre.
Local Attractions
The location is brilliant for a night out. Victoria Leeds, County Arcade, The Guest House Escape Rooms, Leeds Kirkgate Market are all within walking distance. Being part of the Victoria Gate Shopping Centre means you’ve got retail therapy available too if you’re having a bad run at the tables!
Nearby Casinos
The main competitor is Grosvenor Casino Leeds Westgate, which is just west of the city centre on Kirkstall Road. I’ve played at both, and while Grosvenor has its merits with numerous Roulette (including electronic terminals), Blackjack & Poker tables, plus popular Slot machines, Victoria Gate feels more modern and has better facilities overall.

Since opening its doors in 2017, Victoria Gate Casino has quickly established itself as one of Leeds’ leading gaming and entertainment venues. The facilities are modern and extensive, the poker room is genuinely world-class, and the 24/7 operation means you can game whenever the mood strikes. The combination of casino gaming with excellent food, drinks, and sports viewing makes it more than just a gambling venue.
However, it’s not perfect. The dress code can be frustratingly inconsistent, customer service varies depending on which staff member you encounter, and it can get extremely busy on weekends. The entry policy also seems quite strict and I’ve witnessed people being turned away for relatively minor infractions.
