Sails of Gold is one of the two latest additions to the Play ‘N Go video slots collection. With these two games the developer tried to make something different and if you compare them to some other slots in their offer you will see that they are nothing alike.

Still despite the fact that this is a new slot game, almost the same game with the same features and design can be found in Novamatic software. The two games are simply too alike and we  think Play ‘N Go should have tried harder to create a unique slot game instead of a clone from another provider.

How to Play

The game play here is very simple. There are 10 available pay lines and you can choose with how many you want to play. The minimum bet is only $0.10 while the maximum is a high $50. Once you set your bet, depending on your bankroll and how lucky you feel, the only option left is to hit the spin button and hope for some big wins on your screen.

Special Features

Like in all other video slot games the main symbols here are the wild ( Columbus ) and the scatter       ( Ship ).  The wild substitutes for all other symbols except the scatter and has a maximum payout of 5,000 coins for 5 of these explorers on a winning pay line.

The more interesting symbol here is the scatter. If 3 of them land on reels 1, 3 and 5 they trigger the free spins bonus round and award 10 free spins. During the free spins you can land an extra set of scatters on the same reels and get awarded with another extra 10 free spins. There is no specified value of how many times the re-trigger can occur. In the free spins bonus all scatter symbols that land on the reels have a double role and act as extra wild symbols as well.

So with every re-trigger you also have 3 wild symbols which can provide more winning combinations. One thing that is missing from this bonus round is the standard free spins multiplier. All wins during the free spins depend only on the wild symbols, which is not something we are used to in most other bonus rounds.

Maximums Payout

The maximum payout in a video slot game depends on the highest paying symbol, which in this case is the wild, and the bonus round payout potential. The wild payout here is a decent 5,000 coins, but the bonus round seems to lack a big payout potential. The maximum win possible on this game is set at 250,000 coins, but we have doubts that it will ever happen.

Summary

Sails of Gold has a few features that could make it a great game to play and win big, but is also missing some crucial details every top video slot game has. The pay table is decent with the highest payout possible coming from the wild symbol.

Usually in any other video slot game landing 5 wilds on a pay line is considered as winning the jackpot, because it never happens, but here it’s different. Thanks to the scatter symbols that land on reels 1, 3 and 5 and the extra wild added function, 5 of a kind wild wins seem more possible. The number of retriggers can be big but how big exactly we don’t know for sure.

The only thing missing is a multiplier in the bonus round. Did the guys in Play ‘N Go forget to add this feature or what? Without a multiplier, even a small x 2, Sails of Gold awards very small payouts and doesn’t justify the money you invest in it hoping for a decent win. This is one video slot game we wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for a big payout.
