Second Strike Slot Review
The Second Strike slot game, has a retro theme. The symbols are a generic selection from the age old fruit machine catalogue. A mix of fruit, gems, 7s and diamonds.
The font used for the games lettering look like it belongs in a 70s game show. There is a sunburst pattern, the likes of which this decade has never seen.
Second Strike was developed by Swedish slot developers, Quickspin. They are a fairly new company who are trying to make inroads into the online slots world. Their CEO is Daniel Lindberg.
He spent five years as the Sales Director at Net Entertainment. The Net Ent influence is front and centre in their previous games. They have exceptional graphics, and all of their games has an original idea or two, behind them.
Second Strike is a 5 reel slot. To honour the vintage feel, the interface is framed, by the border of a land based slot machine. There is a border of faded purple squares, with matching game symbols around the reels.
This is to do with the second strike feature, but more on that in the “How to Play” section. The panel is below the interface and it is made up of white and orange rectangles. It is really nicely designed panel, and it is hard to nail a vintage theme.
How to play
Second strike has 10 pay lines, played left to right. The spin button in down the bottom right of the screen in an orange box and pressing it gets the reels turning. It is a run of the mill slot, and the beginner will have no trouble playing this one.
Bets are placed and adjusted with arrows next to the player’s current bet. The minimum coin size is $0.01 and the max is $1 with a maximum bet of $100. There are no free spins but there is a Wild Gold Star Symbol.
This game is named after its bonus feature, and rightly so, it is pretty cool. It is unlocked every win and goes a little something like this. The player wins and the winning symbols light up in the faded purple squares, which border the interface.
In a roulette type game mode a glowing square moves around this border potential stopping on one of the winning symbols. If it does happen to stop on the lit up correct symbol, well the player is in luck. Some of the symbols on the reels will be replaced with the winning symbol, turning a potential 3 in a row win into a 4 or a 5 in a row. It is really hard to explain and there is still a bit more to it than that. But it is an original feature with improves gameplay tenfold.
The amount of extra symbol, awarded by the Second Strike is determined by the initial win, which triggered the bonus game. Three in a row rewards 6 extra symbols, 4 in a row 8 and 5 in a row earns 10 extra symbols.
In the Base Game, without the second strike, the Jackpot is 1000 coins. This is won by lining up 5 Diamond Symbols in a row. This information was collected from a Youtube video as Quickspin has not been forthcoming with the figure awarded for Second Strike’s Jackpot.
After this win the player will enter the second strike mode and if successful an extra 10 Diamond Symbols will fill the reels. This will pay a lot, at an educated guess, probably north of £100,000.
This is a trendy game. The Second Strike feature just might win it a place, in the hearts of players everywhere. It really is an intense gaming experience. As soon as the player gets that win, their eyes will be glued to the screen. It is an invigorating game. It is also a well-designed slot. The retro theme is a hard one to get right and Quickspin deserves kudos for pulling it off.
