This is actually a Chinese mythology themed game, based on the legendary Huangdi. Some say that Huangdi was the first emperor of China, and the ancestor of all Chinese today.

Despite the originality of the Huangdi: The Yellow Emperor slot’s theme, there isn’t too much originality in terms of its structure. You will find that the same 25-line setup that appears in most smaller-scale Microgaming developed slots.

It is almost as if Microgaming doesn’t expect certain slots to do well, so they seemingly give them very simplistic structures. We have every confidence that this slot will do considerably better than many of Microgaming’s other recently released slot games.

Wild symbols: The Yellow Emperor himself is a wild symbol in this game. When the wild appears, it can substitute for all other symbols in the slot, excluding the scatter icon. There isn’t anything overly impressive about this wild on its own.

Stacked symbols: If the wild should appear stacked on the fifth reel, whilst a sword, medicine box, or instrument appears on the first reel, a stacked symbol feature will be triggered. All matching symbols on the reels (which form a part of a winning line) will expand, too, boosting your wins.

Scatter icons: The predictable dragon symbols are this game’s scatters, and they can offer you scattered wins worth up to 100x your total bet when they appear on the reels. These scatters can also trigger a free games feature when 3 or more appear in any position on the screen.

Free spins bonus: When 3 or more dragon symbols appear on the reels, the player will start a free spins feature which promises 15 free games.

During those spins, the Huangdi wild symbol appears stacked on the first reel, and if it does so, any other wilds appear during the feature, they can become stacked, too. Players can also prosper from additional free spins if they land 3 or more dragon scatters whilst the bonus is being played.

Yet there is something rather endearing about this slot’s theme. It has a few new tricks up its sleeve in terms of its features, but the theme is the real winner here.

We learnt a little bit about the Yellow Emperor along the way, and now we’re consumed with interest in the mythical man himself. Not too many slots (Microgaming developed or otherwise) can do that to you.

Even if you don’t take an interest in the myth, there is enough to like about this slot to make it worth a quick peek.
