God of Fire Slot Machine – Free Play & Review
One of the gods that got less attention from developers over the years, Hephaestus is the focus of God of Fire, a brand new slot machine from Northern Lights Gaming and Microgaming. The god of fire has been mentioned as a craftsman and a blacksmith, someone that got his hands dirty, not quite like the others that ruled the skies in Ancient Greek mythology.
Unfortunately, even though the theme chosen here is a promising one, the implementation is not great. Hephaestus is indeed present next to the reels, and there is a fair bit of fire in the slot’s design, but mostly you’re getting a lot of black on its reels. The symbols are not that attractive either, average at best if we’re looking at the themed ones. It starts with Royals, and then we move on to pottery, marble pillars, helmets, or Hephaestus.
With over a dozen slot machines released, Northern Lights Gaming is still a fairly small developer. They’re mostly suppliers for Microgaming, creating slot machines for them, and getting access to a larger audience as a result. All Star Knockout and Divine Diamonds are other examples of games they’ve designed as part of this partnership.
How To Play It
The wager in God of Fire will start from as little as $0.10 each round, and it could reach a maximum at $50.
It’s a slot machine with 5 reels, that uses the UltraWays engine, allowing it to go from 243 ways to win, to as many as 60+ million ways. It’s impressive when it expands, but at its core you’re still going to form winning combinations with 3+ matching symbols landing left to right on adjacent reels.
While you get 5×3 symbol positions, each of those symbols can have two or four smaller icons inside, so the number of ways to win gets a decent boost when this happens. Up to 10-symbol combinations are possible, taking into account the symbols which are touching horizontally as being part of the same combo.
Blue Wilds are present in the game, and these will be triggers for a feature that has them explode and turn into up to four regular wilds. Wilds that are included in combinations will be used there as substitutes.
God of Fire also comes with its own scatter, the one showing the Wreath and the box. Whenever you get 3 to 5 of these scatters at the same time, you get access to the free spins.
The number of trigger symbols will determine how many lives you get in the mode, with 3 to 5 available. You win extra lives by getting Heart symbols, and you lose them when you get Skulls.
Several modifiers are randomly triggered as you’re playing through the free spins:
- Ultraways Upgrade (gives you expanding symbols);
- Exploding Wilds (a Blue Wild is added in the place of a regular symbol);
- Up to 10x multipliers for all winning combinations of that round.
There are Super Spins as well, triggered when you get only 2 scatters on the reels a total of 60 times. It comes with a random number of lives, and you’re guaranteed one of the modifiers each time. Up to 20x multipliers are possible.
Like most slots with Megaways, it can pay amazingly well, and an 18,000x the stake top jackpot is on the table. That could be turned into up to $235,000 cash in a single spin.
A game which has high volatility, God of Fire gives you a 96.02% RTP in a best case scenario (lower values are also available).
Overall, I do like some of the things that are offered in God of Fire, and the UltraWays system should be a decent alternative to the popular Megaways, if you find yourself at a Microgaming casino.
