A fire-themed toad, that’s the theme that Play n Go decided to go with, in this new slot machine. Fire Toad is certainly going for an original theme here, which I appreciate, especially as we see it coupled with a volcano’s lava in the background image.

There are two types of regular symbols that you get on the reels. On one hand, there are the four card suit icons, wonderfully drawn and with a lot more details to them than I’m used to seeing. The better symbols are the ones showing us the toads though, ranging in age and size from the tiny tadpoles, to the King of the Fire Toads.

It’s a developer with over 200 video slots released so far, most of them at above average quality, with excellent top prizes, but often with higher volatility as well. I’m talking about Play n GO, which appears to have as a target the release of one new slot machine for each week of the year.

How To Play It

You may change any part of the wager, starting from the number of lines (up to 10), the coins which are used (up to 5), and their denomination (up to $2). You could spend even as little as $0.01 if you didn’t care about the number of lines, but you could also wager up to $100 per spin.

They’ve gone for a regular Book-style setup, so you have 5 reels and 10 active lines. It’s during the free spins that things get exciting, but more on that below.

Special Features

Thoth is one of the deities which will appear on the reels, and it’s a wild that you get to use as part of any new combination it can contribute to. While you can only get these on the reels 2, 3 or 4, they apply a multiplier when they manage to cover their reels completely. Depending on how many wild reels you end up with, 1 to 3 being possible, the multiplier they apply will boost wins by 2x, 3x or 5x, respectively.

Pendants, showing the Eye of Ra, will be symbols that you can use to trigger 10 free spins. 3+ scatters are needed, but they can pay as much as 200x the stake when they appear. To retrigger the feature, you need the same requirements to be met again.

As Book-style slots tend to do, these Pendant scatters are also used as wilds, and while not as spectacular as the Thoth Wilds, they can still do a lot of good.

Once you get the free spins going, you get a special expanding symbol, chosen from among the regular icons. It expands and takes over its reels, whenever it lands, and it will pay in exchange for 3 to 5 symbols present on a line, even if they’re not properly aligned.

Maximum Payouts

While a typical payout will reach 5,000x the stake in a Book-style slot machine, Amulet of Dead goes a bit lower, to just 2,500x the stake. The volatility rating drops a bit as well, and the RTP can be found at 96.29%, so all in all, it can be a decent option in its category.

Summary

For someone that loves Book-style games already, Amulet of Dead can certainly be an option. It adds something extra to this category, in the form of expanding wilds with multipliers, so while some things remain the same, there are things to set it apart also.
