Mexico’s Day of the Dead is a holiday that’s been an inspiration for a lot of developers already, and here we’re seeing Elk Studios attempting to approach it as well. One thing that I’ve noticed about similarly themed slots, is that the graphics always seem to be top notch. While Elk went for a 3-reel setup in this one, they managed to design it with the expected high end graphics, and it looks like a lot of fun for a game in this classic category.

As symbols, you still get a range of classic options, but there are also Skulls with flower decorations, along with the Wild logos. Regular symbols will deliver us images of Fire Diamonds, Lucky 7s, Bells, Horseshoes, Bar logos, Watermelons, Limes and Chili Peppers. The background looks better than the classic icons do, with horned Skulls, Tequilla shots and flowers all around.

It’s Elk Studios that has designed Diablo Reels for us, a developer that is typically releasing one new slot machine each month.

They’re not one of the bigger names around, but they have plenty of games under their belt by now, and typically the quality is quite high. A few of my favorite titles that they released in 2020, would include Blood Lust and Black River Gold.

How To Play It

The betting system doesn’t seem to change in Elk Studios slots. The range is always $0.20 to $100, and it covers all lines available, with 100 coins included (up to $1 denominations).

3 reels are getting 5 lines in Diablo Reels, but there is also a secondary zone at the top, with 3 additional rows of symbols, and this means a possible access to a bigger game area (up to 10 lines during Respins and Free Spins).

Special Features

Among the several features included in Diablo Reels, we find the wild symbols. Regular versions can land stacked, and be helpful as substitutes when you’re forming new combinations.

The Nudging Wilds are also there, and they’re recognized by the arrow pointing upwards, and by the purple background (regular get red background). Their appearance triggers a movement of the reel towards the upper side. Respins are available for as long as the Nudging Wilds are still visible, but soon enough they will leave the game area. Up to 5x multipliers are available, when the Nudging Wilds are present on the upper set of reels.

Get a stacked wild symbol to fully cover one of the reels, and you get Wild Stack Respins. The upper set of reels is also activated here, with the corresponding reel being wild there as well. The other two reels will spin.

The scatters are going to be used as triggers for the free spins feature. You can get 10 rounds, with the entire game area active and with 10 paylines in use. Only high value symbols can appear on the 5 lines from the top though, making it a much likelier source of big wins. The free spins can also be retriggered.

Maximum Payouts

I like the potential of this game, especially as it is a slot with 3 reels, and those are not typically expected to be easy to get paid by. Up to 2,500x the stake is available in this one, though the slot also has medium to high volatility. Luckily, the RTP of 96.30% tells us that it’s a fair option, in the long run.

Diablo Reels isn’t just for fans of the classics, even though it might look like it. With a modern theme and design, as well as a number of excellent features that prove quite entertaining, it has a lot to offer, and it can be as profitable as a newer slot.
