Cluedo: Spinning Detectives Slot Review
Cluedo: Spinning Detectives is WMS Gaming’s (Williams Interactive) first attempt at a Cluedo-themed slot. They have already showcased what they can do with Monopoly – another major board game – so the hopes are high for this Cluedo-themed game.
It is far more realistic and faithful to the original board game than the impressive slot that IGT released a number of years ago. However, we must admit that Cluedo: Spinning Detectives can take a while to get used to, due to its overly complicated special features.
WMS Gaming have been branching out into the board game market, and what better way to follow up their success with the Monopoly franchise than by attempting to recreate one of the most loved mystery board games of all time in slot machine format.
There are several top murder mystery themed slots on the net already, and IGT’s Clued is the benchmark. To top it, Cluedo: Spinning Detectives is going to have been brilliant. So, how does it fare?
How to play
Cluedo: Spinning Detectives features a very complex setup. Besides the main reels and 40 paylines are a host of various rooms, each with their own jackpot prizes.
Below them is the wagering menu bar. From there, players can opt to wager anything from a floor of just $0.40 per spin, up to a ceiling of $200 per spin. That’s pretty reasonable considering what you are getting in return, as you will see.
Wild symbols: The Cluedo logo is the wild symbol in this slot, and it can substitute for all other symbols on the reels, save for jackpot, conservatory, billiard room, library, kitchen, dining room, mansion and card symbols.
Room Reel Sets: You will notice that each room is present beside the main reel set. These room reel sets are triggered when room symbols appear. Room sets replace the main reel set, and each room set has its own jackpot.
Magnifying glass symbols: Players need to land 5 scattered magnifying glass symbols to win a room’s jackpot. Obviously, some rooms have better jackpots than others, but none of them are progressive jackpot wins.
Room features: Each room also has its own features. In the conservatory, gold characters replace standard characters on the reels. In the Billiard Room, wild balls replace other balls, and random wilds can occur.
The envelope wild can also appear on the fifth reel and replace all other symbols save for magnifying glass icons. Library rooms contain stacked book wilds, whilst the kitchen’s knife wilds are randomly added to the reels. Dining room reel sets feature poison wilds, which can expand to occupy whole reels.
Free spin bonus: There is also a free spins bonus in this slot. Land mansion icons on the first, third, and fifth reels at the same time on the main reel set and you will trigger 7 free spins. Additional goodies in the form of the room features are also present during the free spin bonus round.
Spinning Detective bonus: Landing 3 scattered cards on the first, second, and third reels of the main reel set will see you trigger a Spinning Detective bonus. In this feature, players can select from 7 cards to reveal suspects, weapons, rooms, 2x multipliers of the Master Slot Detective.
The latter offers a 500x your total bet cash prize, whilst other prizes vary from 100 coins up to 300 coins. Case Solved, and Last Chance Pick features can see you pocket extra picks to boost your wins.
The amount you can varies depending on which room reel set you are playing in. The dining room offers the best prize, being worth 100,000 coins.
The kitchen offers a 20,000-coin prize, with the library offering 10,000 coins, and the billiard room coughing up to 5,000 coins. The conservatory offers the least, at just 2,000 coins.
Cluedo: Spinning Detectives is jam-packed with special features. In fact, you might even argue that there are too many special features for players to contend with in this slot. The surplus of symbols certainly does make it hard to nail down standard five-of-a-kind winning combinations.
However, the glut of bonuses does promise some rather spectacular wins every so often when playing this slot. Is it as good as IGT’s Cluedo game? To be perfectly honest, you can’t compare the two. They are so different from one another that both games are very separate, very individual winners in their own arenas.
