It’s the second Beat the Beast slot machine from Thunderkick, and it’s inspired by Ancient Egypt and by the Sphinx. Mighty Sphinx offers the usual sand-covered landscape in the background, with pyramids shown in the distance.

The Sphinx is the main symbol inside, followed by the Sphinx Emblem (feature), Sphinx statue, Scarab, Lotus Flower, Scythe and the Royals. A very good design, but that’s mostly due to the quality of the graphics. The theme itself is too common, and doesn’t show a lot of originality.

How To Play It

Playing a slot machine these days tends to be fairly easy, and the wagering limits start quite low. Here, we’re getting bets of just $0.10, which will spin the reels. Increasing the wager allows you to go up to $100, with 10 coins used for 9 lines.

5×3 reels give you a regular game area, but there will be only 9 active lines, not quite enough by today’s standards. It’s not the type of slot to shower you with features, so it should be easy enough to play.

Special Features

Sphinx Emblem will be a wild symbol and a scatter, the type of feature trigger that has two different ways to reward you when it shows up. Since it’s the only feature trigger around, there is no other symbol that it can’t replace, it’s a substitute for all others, provided that the requirements for a new combo are met.

These Sphinx Emblem symbols can also show up at random, as long as the Mystery feature triggers. It’s a random event, but one that adds as many as three wild/scatter symbols on the reels.

Depending on the number of Sphinx Emblems that appear in view, the game offers rewards of up to 200x the stake, with up to five required for that to happen.

When 3+ Sphinx Emblems are in view, in addition to the payouts that will come your way, there are also 10 free spins to trigger. After the feature starts, you retrigger it via another set of 3+ scatters, but you get only 5 more rounds then, though the game also upgrades a medium value symbol to be a wild. Each free spin has up to three wild symbols added in random positions, so at least we know that the odds are better for these rounds.

Maximum Payouts

We’re seeing that the game mentions a top jackpot of up to 4,444x the stake, an excellent return for most games, though not as impressive here. The reason for that is the high volatility that is also mentioned in its case.

The gameplay involves a lot more risk from one spin to the next, so it’s only natural for payouts to be considerably higher as well. What ultimately tells us how fair the game is, the Return to Player is at 96.14%, which I consider to be enough to make it a pretty good choice.
