Canada Gambling Restrictions Overruled

To the great relief of local online gambling fans, The Quebec Superior Court recently overruled the province’s attempt to place a ban on online gambling services that had failed to get permission from the state-run gambling organization. The legislation, which was instigated in 2016, stated that internet service providers would be obligated to block local internet gamblers from gambling sites that had not acquired the necessary permission. This has led some online gambling experts to believe that the rumors false that state that the Canadian courts will soon be banning all online gambling sites. Right now, the online gambling atmosphere in Canada is one of the most relaxed and flourishing in the world.

The recent controversial legislation was brought to the attention of the court thanks to the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association who challenged it. The online gambling industry is so lucrative that last year it brought in CA$17.3 million. If the court had allowed the legislation, known as Bill 74, in doing so it would have set a precedent in the country. Experts say that it does look like the online gambling industry is going to remain continually very healthy

That is not the case for fantasy sports betting. Not long ago, researchers pointed out to the Canadian government that there were some extent forms of fantasy sports betting in online Canadian gambling circles that were illegal in the U.S. These proponents say these forms of fantasy sports should also be outlawed in Canada. The government took notice and illegalized the fantasy sports betting. But the U.S. was at the same time becoming more lenient as far as fantasy and real-world sports gambling. More and more U.S. states are even now being attracted by the extra revenue these activities can offer.

The Canadian government is resolved to continue its ban of fantasy sports betting. This is even in the face of the fact that this will make an already very hard competition with the U.S. for online gambling even harder. The Canadian Gaming Association is working very hard to change their government’s mind on this issue. Right now, they are fighting for the allowance of single-event sports wagering. They argue that Canadians are spending online gambling money on outside Canada sources on average of $14 billion because Canada won’t allow them in the country.
Various Canadian provinces are also trying to get these things allowed. Only time will tell if this will be changed.
