PokerStars Appoints Mats Sundin as Brand Ambassador
PokerStars, considered one of the world’s largest online poker rooms, has announced the recent appointment of National Hockey League (NHL) icon and former Toronto Maple Leafs’ captain Mats Sundin as their new brand ambassador.
The NHL icon will play poker both live and online as part of his role and including frequent appearances playing on PokerStars.net and live tournaments on the PokerStars’ global poker tour circuit. The NHL icon will take part in the PokerStars European Poker Tour which starts its fifth season next week in Barcelona.
The 37 year old started his NHL Career playing with The Quebec Nordiques before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, a team that is also sponsored by PokerStars. He holds a number of NHL records to complement his seven medals playing for his native country Sweden in three Winter Olympics and five World Championships since 1992.
Talking about his new role, Sundin said, “I have always loved playing poker. The partnership with the site will give me an opportunity to challenge myself and explore the full potential of my game.” He added, “It won’t be easy for me to play and learn against the best players in the world, though I believe the fighting spirit I’ve developed as a hockey professional will really help me at the tables.”
The NHL star supports several charities in Sweden and internationally and has stated that he will donate his profits earned at the poker tables to various charities.
