There are three multi-national lotteries that operate across Europe and the EuroJackpot is the latest of them. Launched back in 2012, this lottery joins both the EuroMillions and Viking Lotto at giving players across Europe the chance of winning substantial amounts of money.
While you might expect that only players from Europe and the member countries for this lottery can take part, you would actually be mistaken because now players from across the globe can now participate through purchasing their tickets online.
While the EuroJackpot offers some of the lowest jackpots of all of the main multi-national lotteries, it is able to boast the best odds of winning. Despite those smaller jackpots, however, it has still managed to create two winners who have taken the full capped jackpot amount of €90 million since it was launched.

Some History of the EuroJackpot Lottery
The EuroJackpot was first proposed back in 2006 to provide a bit of competition for the EuroMillions and it was a selection of countries that were not participating in the EuroMillions that wanted to have it created. These were Holland, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Slovenia and Finland and after five years of negotiations, a deal was struck in 2011 to create the EuroJackpot.
Not long after its launch in 2012, Estonia, Spain, Croatia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden jumped on board too. Then, a few years down the line the likes of Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland also joined.
With the addition of all of the above countries, the EuroJackpot actually established a wider audience than the EuroMillions with citizens totalling more than 300 million. The EuroMillions operates in countries that give a combined total of players of just over 217 million.
How to Play the EuroJackpot Lottery
If you have ever played a lottery whether it is a national lottery or a multi-nation lottery before, there is a good chance that you will know the basics of what you need to do with the EuroJackpot.
First, you have to purchase your ticket – which can be done from a retailer in one of the member countries or via an online merchant if you live outside those countries. These tickets cost €2 per line and are active for one lottery draw only.
Once you have bought your ticket, you then have to choose five main numbers from a selection ranging between 1 and 50. You then have to choose two Euro numbers that will be drawn from a separate tombola when the draw takes place of between 1 and 8.
Once you have done that, you are now ready to see the draw when it takes place or check the results afterwards.
If you win, you then need to claim your prize. If not it will be a case of better luck next time. There is a fresh draw each and every week on a Friday at 8 pm in Finland, so there will be plenty of chances for you to land a big payout.
Anytime that a jackpot is not won, it is important to remember that this amount will roll over to the next draw. This is when there is likely to be an increase in ticket sales as the lottery jackpot gets bigger and attracts more players. This can only mean that the jackpot will increase dramatically each and every week that the jackpot is not won.

How Much Can Be Won?
The first thing most experienced lottery players will notice is that the EuroJackpot has jackpots that could be considered to be some of the smallest around. However, as we mentioned before, while that is true, this just means that there is a far greater chance of winning them.
The minimum jackpot which is guaranteed for every draw is that of €10 million and if it is not won, that jackpot will keep rolling over to the next draw until it reaches a cap of €90 million. Those payouts can also dramatically change as they are based on how big the jackpot gets and how many tickets are sold. Rather than having fixed amounts for non-jackpot prizes, these amounts will grow alongside that jackpot. The above is just the average over the past twelve months but they can be significantly higher on draws that have reached the maximum €90 million capped jackpot.
Previous Notable Jackpots
The jackpot becomes capped once it reaches €90 million as we have previously mentioned and there have been two separate occasions when winners have won that full amount.
A ticket holder from the Czech Republic was the first to achieve the highest possible jackpot on the EuroJackpot and this happened back in May of 2015. The second time it was won was more than a year later in October of 2016 with the ticket holder this time coming from Germany.
In April of 2017, there was another big winner of the EuroJackpot, with a Finnish player this time being the recipient of a very impressive jackpot of €86,970,702.80. Just a little under a year before that win, another German scooped a jackpot of €84,777,435.80 in July of 2016.
The big wins do not stop there either as there are plenty more such as yet another German getting lucky and winning €76,766,891.40 also in 2016 on the 25th of March.
You can then point to wins of €61,170,752.70, €58,693,173.90 and €57,275,841.60 that were all recorded in 2014.
There have also been a further 40+ winners of the jackpot since its launch with these prizes ranging from €10 million to €50 million.

What are the Chances of Winning?
The EuroJackpot, as previously mentioned cannot compete in terms of total jackpots but what it can do is provide players with the best chance of success when playing their lottery. As you can see, the odds of winning any prize are far greater than you will find on any of the other large multi-national lotteries. The prizes may be less but you have to consider this decide whether you want longer odds and bigger payouts or smaller odds and slightly lower payouts.

Who Can Play the EuroJackpot Lottery?
When the EuroJackpot was first launched, it like many other transnational lotteries would only let players from its member countries take part.
However, since technology and the internet have made the world a much smaller place, players from countries all over the world are now free to take part in the EuroJackpot Lottery. The EuroJackpot is actually very similar to that of the EuroMillions in regards to how the jackpot is paid out. It is paid out in one lump sum and there are no other options to consider.
This is different to other multi-national lotteries such as the PowerBall and MegaMillions in the USA that tries to tempt players into receiving 30 annual payments rather than a lump sum. They do this by paying out a lower amount (sometimes close to half) of the jackpot to those that opt for upfront payments while the 30 years of instalments will get the full value of their win.
