The developer behind this game is Thunderkick which had a big success among the gambling community with their most popular games Esqueleto Explosivo and Birds on a Wire. Their games are known to be unique in design and The Rift is no exception from this rule.

How to Play

The Rift is a 17 pay line, 5 reel slot with 3 standard rows. The number of pay lines is fixed and can’t be altered so the only other option is to adjust the bet level. The minimum bet allowed is only $0.10 while the maximum is a high $100 making it a perfect game both for low and high roller players.

If you like playing long sessions the auto play button is a great option with up to 5,000 auto spins. You can also set the spins to stop when a feature is won, so you can enjoy watching the bonus round.

Special Features

This game has the standard Wild and Scatter symbol. The scatters don’t have any payout attached and only trigger one of the two bonus features. If you land 2 of the scatter symbols anywhere on the reels you will be awarded with a Rift Re-Spin. During this spin all wild symbols that are on the reels and aren’t substituting in a winning combination are locked in place.

Also you can get from 1 to 3 extra wild symbols on the reels. If you land 3 or more scatter symbols on the reels you will trigger the free spins bonus. Depending on the number of scatters you can get 10, 15 or 20 free spins.

There is no multiplier added during the free spins but you have a chance to win extra wild symbols on every spin. During this feature all wild symbols that aren’t involved in a winning combination act as sticky wilds until a win with them substituting occurs.

Also in the back of the reels the Rift Seal becomes active. There are nine steps on it that are filled as a scatter symbol lands on the reels. For each third place on the seal you are awarded with two extra free spins and the number of wilds in every spin increases. It goes from 1 extra wilds for 3 scatters collected, 2 extra wilds for 6 scatters collected and 3 extra wilds for 9 scatters collected on the reels.

Maximums Payout

If you take a look at the pay table of this game you won’t be too impressed. The highest paying symbol is the Book with a payout of 30 x bet for 5 of them on a winning pay line. Even more disappointing is the fact that 5 wild symbols on a pay line have the same 30 x bet payout attached.

Since there is no multiplier added to the free spins bonus, the big wins can only come if you manage to collect all 9 of the scatter symbols and unlock the last level of the Rift Seal. This way you have a chance to have a big number of wilds on the reels and maybe a few pay lines with decent 5 of a kind symbols.

Summary

We decided to give this game a chance and try it for real just to see what it had to offer. The payouts during the base game are small to medium but it seems almost impossible to get a big win even in the Rift Re-Spin feature. As in most video slot games the biggest wins can come in the bonus round. The feature here seems fairly easy to trigger and it seems we got 3 scatter symbols every 70-80 spins.

Still the biggest win we had was 110 x bet only one time and not once did we manage to unlock the last level with extra 3 wilds. Also getting 4 or 5 scatter symbols to trigger the bonus never occurred.

The game certainly has potential to pay decent or even big but we just didn’t see it on our screen. On the other hand we played close to 1,000 spins on $1 bets and dropped only about $200 in balance which is great if you are wagering a big bonus.
