IGT Just Launched Balloonies Slot Machine

Balloonies is a new slot developed by IGT (International Gaming Technology). It is a cascading slot themed around balloon animals. IGT are massive contender in the online slot industry and produce about half of the land based slot machine in the United States of America.

Being able to make these claims you would expect that IGT makes a good game, and for the most part you would be right. Their previous titles are to be commended for exceptional gameplay, RTPs and jackpots. Occasionally, the company will neglect the visual elements of slot design and this can really let their titles down.

What We Like

Balloonies has an interesting theme and it is well implemented. We think this is a great idea for a cascading slot, or whatever you call a slot, where the symbols rise from below the reels when a win is made.

The balloons in the win pop; this leaves space on the reels, which is filled by a symbol from below. As far as we know, this is an original idea and it works great. It has left to right gameplay, meaning that the first symbol in a winning line needs to be in the furthermost reel to the left. The reels are still spun with the spin button, and although it has cascading slot gameplay IGT have kept things simple.

We like the Star Symbol and the multiplying feature, which comes with it. The feature is in the base game and the free spins game. It is a very simple feature and is triggered by landing on the reels. The star will randomly reward a 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier for all wins on in the spin. If there are no wins it pays 2x the line bet. The symbol is only on reels 1,2 and 3. We liked this feature and found it won more for us than standard line wins.

Balloonies has a free spins feature, which is triggered by landing three scatters on the reels. The scatter symbol is hard to miss as it has bonus written across it. The gameplay is near identical to that found in the base game, except for the obvious advantage of free spins. The visual aspects change to set the free spins game in the night.

What We Don’t Like

It is time for the truth to come out, we do not really like this slot. The graphics are dated and it has little in the way of animations. This is no surprise to us. IGT often make a game that looks like it was designed ten years ago.

We think that the company tries to make slots for the online platform to the same standard as their land based games, and it does not work. The online platform is fiercely competitive. Why would we put money into this average looking game when we have so many to choose from.

The game is also lacking in the features department. All IGT has bothered to include is a free spins feature with identical gameplay. Do not get excited when you trigger the free spins game, chance are that you will go through all the spins without a single win. The gameplay is slow, and boring. Everything takes longer than it should and there is no flow to the gameplay.

Is This Game Worth Playing?

We do not think that this game is worth playing. There are so many better games, which are worthy of your hard earned coin. IGT have other titles, which are great, but this one does not do it for us.
